Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot! The classic Reggae song would have been the perfect opening number when the band 'fired up'. As it was, they began with something a little 'cooler'.
A 35+ Singles Dance Party on a 43.5 degree Celsius stinker of a day during the worst heatwave in Adelaide for 66 years? No sweat!
Well, perhaps that's not quite true. We did sweat a great deal, but on Saturday 21st January at the West Adelaide Football Club close to 300 people laughed off the swelter and enjoyed a fabulous evening.
Great music wasn't even in the "Two Hard Basket" for John (The Voice) and Dave who pumped out a fabulous array of dance songs in their usual brilliant style. Despite the difficulty of the air-conditioning unit in coping with the extreme heat the dance floor was full all night.
We had to dispense with the usual pizza supper due to the venue management’s enforcement of a 'no outside catering' rule, but Gareth aimed to compensate for that somewhat with twenty packets of Tim-Tams. Unfortunately they remained unopened with their contents threatening to ooze out of them. That didn't matter much since it was a bit too hot to be eating anyway.
Yet again the room was still very crowded when the band finished at 12.30 AM and the guests reluctantly left, declaring it to have been on of the best singles events that they had ever attended. Their sentiments may have been a bit overly kind but its pleasing to know that your efforts are well appreciated.
The West Adelaide Football Club function room is an excellent venue, centrally located at Milner Road, Richmond. It possesses a charming atmosphere with a warm and friendly 'feel' to it. We will return there later in 2006.
