This is a list of sightseeing attractions well worth seeing when visting Adelaide, south Australia.
Barossa Valley Attractions
Beautiful Chateau Yaldara is located just out of the town of Lyndoch in the southern Barossa Valley. It was built in 1947 by Herman Thumm who migrated to South Australia from Europe. It's now owned by Mc Guigan Wines. You can enjoy a tasting of their high quality wines as well as olives, cheeses and smallgoods or take a relaxing walk in the picturesque grounds. The Seekers made a film clip of their song Red Rubber Ball at Chateau Yaldara in the 1960's. An excellent restaurant offers cafe style meals or full a-la-carte dining.
Chateau Dorrien is an historic winery built in 1913 and originally owned by the Seppelt wine-making family. It's now owned by the Martin family who have preserved it. They use it as a facility for distributing their range of fine wines including wonderful honey meads and a delightful White Port. Their wines are only sold direct to the public. They are not available in liquor stores but can be ordered and shipped interstate. Inside the building the old concrete vats have been decorated with murals depicting early winemaking in the Barossa Valley. The artwork has taken twenty years to complete.
Cockatoo Ridge wines are located between the towns of Nuriootpa and Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. They produce a range of excellent red and white wines which they distribute throughout Australia and are now exporting. This winery is a highly recommended stop on a wine-tasting visit to the Barossa wine region.
Grant Burge Wines are located on the banks of Jacobs Creek. The lovely newer building is joined to part of the original Jacob Brothers winery built in the 1860's. The additions were made by Orlando wines in the 1970's when the building was used as a restaurant. Grant Burge acquired it in 1988 and has since forged a name as a maker of premium wines with many awards to his credit. You can taste some wonderful red and white wines along with aged Muscat and other fortifieds or take in the magnificent garden in the grounds. This winery is a must on a Barossa Valley wine tour.
